Job Stories From Queen Annes County, MD
SmartJacks in Chestertown

This home in Chestertown is located close to the Chester River. Known for being beautiful and pristine and also for the high moisture content in the soil. This older home was built with the open vent crawl space system with a dirt floor. Allowing the humid air to stay in the crawl space and moist air to rise from the ground. Over time this helps to create an environment for mold to grow and thrive and then causing the wood in the crawl space to rot. When you start to notice sagging floors then you know you already have problem. Eventually, the floors might even give way causing larger issues. The fix for this is to sister the joists or to replace with a new beam. Once we have added the new beam we will then support the new beam and the original floor with SmartJacks. Because they are not made of organic material mold will not break down the SmartJacks. The best protection that you can have against wood rot is to encapsulate your crawl space and then use a dehumidifier. This will ensure that mold will no longer grow in the crawl space.

Basement and Crawl Space Combination

This home has a basement and a connected crawl space. When out inspector entered the home it dry at the time but you can see obvious signs that water has been present in the past. As well they had open vents and a dirt crawl space that was connected to the basement. Because of this they had high moisture readings. The open vents are like leaving a window open in your home - all year round! Encapsulating the crawl space, adding BrightWall and a WaterGuard System will help to create a dry space for the homeowner to use as storage and more.

Encapsulating a Crawl Space in Price, MD

Encapsulating the crawl space was important to this homeowner. However, after calling a company to do the work, they informed her the crawl space was too short to work on or become a problem in the future. She knew she needed to do something to keep her feet from being so cold in the winter. As winter got closer, she knew she needed another company to take a look and see if an encapsulation could be done, despite the crawl space being so short. DryZone came to look at her home and said they could keep her feet warm and protect the floors from moisture damage. After encapsulating and adding a dehumidifier, the crawl space was protected for a long time.

Grasonville, MD Crawl Space Encapsulation

Gravel floors in crawl spaces are great for drainage. However, water vapor from groundwater easily goes through the gravel and does little to regulate the humidity under your home. This homeowner knew they needed something to help drain water from the crawl space in rainy seasons, but failed to realize the humidity from groundwater lingers beyond rainy seasons. A result of this constant humidity was starting to show in how the crawl space started to smell. DryZone noticed, during the free inspection, how the humidity was starting to affect the floorboards and cause some signs of microbial growth. To help this homeowner, DryZone installed a vapor barrier to stop the water vapor from groundwater from entering the crawl space and feeding microbial growth.

Dehumidifier for Barclay, MD Home

High humidity can be the source of larger problems in a crawl space. It can affect the foundation, invite insects, and feed microbial growth. This Barclay, MD homeowner wanted to stop any of these problems before they started in his new home. A dehumidifier was installed in the crawl space to keep humidity down. For humidity to truly be controlled, the crawl space has to be completely sealed from the outside. Without doing this, the dehumidifier works twice as hard trying to take humidity out of an area that is constantly filling with vapor from outside. A strong vapor barrier and a sealant for the rim joists of a crawl space blocks any airways that could allow air and vapor into your home.

Repairing a Bowing Foundation in Crumpton, MD

A full basement can be used for many things. For this Crumpton, MD homeowner, the basement served as an office and bonus storage room. Waterproofing a Basement in Ingleside, MD

Cracks in the foundation of this Ingleside, MD home allowed large amounts of water to enter the basement. Soon enough, the basement became a constant flood zone, and the homeowner was unable to use this large space. DryZone suggested a french drain was the first step to making this home useable. When the water flows through the trench drain and into a sump pump, there are no more constant puddles on the floor. After covering the walls with CleanSpace to seal the basement and guide water into the french drain below, the basement is completely waterproof.

Sealing Vents in a Sudlersville, MD Crawl Space

Crawl Space vents were installed with regulating humidity in mind. However, because humid air rises, moist air would enter this crawl space through the vents and increase humidity instead of regulating it. After noticing microbial growth in the home, this homeowner called DryZone to seal the vents and any other airways that allowed moisture into the home. DryZone suggested sealing the vents with a foam board to ensure a proper seal. After sealing the vents, DryZone covered other areas of the sill plate that allowed air to flow in with spray foam. Now the crawl space is sealed from outside air!
