Challenge

Sometimes a DryZone inspector will notice a broken floor joist or termite damaged board while in a crawlspace. Most of the time its not so severe that it requires completely replacing the structural beams. In this house, however, that was not the case. The owner of this home in Easton, MD called DryZone for a free inspection and stated that the floors were uneven. Once the inspector got in the crawlspace it became very clear as to the cause. Nearly every single floor joist was rotted or destroyed my termites. It was truly an unsafe environment, at any time someone could've fallen through the floor. Replacing one or two boards is a pretty straight forward task, but replacing the entire wooden structure of the home would take careful planning.

Solution

Once the homeowner saw the inspectors photos, he was convinced that the wood needed to be completely replaced. DryZone crews rebuilt over 1,000 feet of floor joists and over 30 feet of heavy girder. What makes this even most amazing is that the height in the crawlspace was only around two feet. The homeowner also learned that moisture causes wood rot and also tends to attract termites. He decided that stopping the moisture was also a good idea and elected to have the drainage matting installed as part of the project. Drainage matting is the first layer in a CleanSpace encapsulation system and some people choose to install it first and come back at a later time for the white vapor barrier.
