Remove Snow From Around Your Home
Snow accumulation near your foundation, windows, and doors can leak into your home once it starts to melt. Remember to shovel any decks, driveways or patios that slope towards your home. This will help to prevent any water from seeping in to your crawl space or basement.
Test Your Sump Pump
If water does get into your basement or crawl space, you want to be sure it is taken care of quickly. Before the snow starts to melt, test your sump pump and your sump pump discharge pipe to ensure it's in working order.
Get a WaterWatch Alarm
During winter storms like the one we had this year major flooding also occurred, be prepared if your sump pump becomes over taken with water. Installing a WaterWatch Alarm will let you know if a problem is occurring.
Install a Battery Back-Up
By having a PowerPack Battery Back up you can rest assured that if the power ever go out your sump pump will continue to work.
Install an IceGuard®
Freezing pipes can cause major issues and an IceGuard® will help prevent water from reentering your crawl space or basement if the lines become clogged or frozen.
Check Downspouts
Make sure that you downspouts are extend away from the home's foundation. This will insure that water will not seep back into your basement. Also make sure that they are clear so melted snow from your roof will be able to drain properly. DON'T have downspouts discharge on to sidewalks and walk ways. When it freezes it can cause a slipping hazard. As well ice freezing on your walkway can cause cracking and other major issues.
Clear Away Sump Pump Discharge
Make sure that your discharge pipes are clear so that water from your sump pump can drain properly away from your home.
