Flooded Crawl Space
The Delmarva is notorious for flooding because we are located so low below sea level. During a hurricane, heavy rain, and flood surge homeowners can experience all types of flooding.
Rust
The damp moist ground can cause rust to form on structural elements under the home. Like a bike left out in the rain.
Standing Water
The vapor barriers that are usually placed under the home may not protect the home from ground moisture and could cause water to build up on top of them. This adds to the humid environment under the home.
Wood Rot
Because wood is an organic material, mold destroys the wood as it feeds on it. This can cause major structural issues.
Spiders
It is very common for spiders to find a home in our crawl spaces because they are dark. But they can eventually find their way inside our home through the crawl space. This is a Brown Recluse Spider. They are very poisonous and can be found all over the Delmarva area.
Critters and Animals
Frogs, snakes, and other bugs and insects love your damp crawl space. For frogs and snakes the bugs that live in your crawl space are great for food. You could have a whole ecosystem under your home!
Mold
Mold is a growing problem under the home because of the moisture levels. But don't worry, getting your crawl space under 50% humidity will eliminate mold from your home.
Falling Insulation
This could look like the end of a really great party but really its because the insulation is starting to take on moisture and is getting too heavy. It begins to fall and break apart. This is no longer effective for your home.
