The sump pump's main purpose is to discharge the water. Here is how the DryZone team does it. The optimum distance from a house for a discharge pipe is ten feet. Some homeowners choose to go farther if they are trying to pump water to the back fence into the woods. We never like to go less than 10 feet because the idea is to get the pump to discharge to undisturbed virgin soil. If the discharge is too close to the house, it will likely drain right back in to the crawlspace or basement, creating a circular motion. We want that water to drain out and away from the house. You can also see the careful way that DryZone crews remove the sod. We want to be able to replace the grass and make it look like it was never disturbed.
