The answer is that the moist air from the dryer cannot empty into your crawlspace if you want to keep it dry. Think about this, the clothes go into the dryer wet and come out dry. That means that the water has to go somewhere. You dryer blows the wet air out and under the house. Some times it empties directly into your crawlspace. A dryer vent extension is a great way to help keep the crawlspace dry.
