Middletown, DE New egress window for one happy homeowner
This past Spring, a homeowner called us to see if we could stop her rusty basement door from leaking. She was having a 5th birthday party for her son in a few months and wanted to fix it before the pool party. Her main concern was that the kids would be running around and having fun and one of them could get hurt on the rusted edges of the door. Secondary to that was the fact that it leaked after a storm and she was constantly mopping and vacuuming water. After all, the only reason she used the old door was to hide Christmas gifts, otherwise it stayed shut year round. When our inspector got to the house, she showed him around and told him what she was trying to accomplish. He sat down with her and showed her the Rockwell Egress Window System that we use. He said that we could replace the door without a problem, but if she was looking to get something safe and water tight then the Rockwell was a better solution. She would gain several feet of sidewalk around the pool and the new window would be sealed much better than a leaky door.
We soon found out that her house was within the town limits of Middletown. No big deal, it just meant that we needed a permit for the job. Lucky for her, she chose DryZone and we take our licensing and permits very seriously. Once we started to dig we realized that it would be a little more difficult than we first thought. Our foreman saw the pool so close to the door and thought it might be too close to go quickly, he was right. Had he not thought about the safety and security on the job, that whole pool might have collapsed into the basement. He took his time and made sure to secure the hole with braces along the way. He made sure to explain to the homeowner along the way what was going on. When the job was done, she was blown away. The new window was perfect, she absolutely loved it. The only drawback was that now she had to find a new hiding place for Christmas gifts.
