Wall Anchors Can Save Your Home's Damaged Foundation
We were recently contacted by a Bethany Beach, DE homeowner, who called us in a panic, asking us to “please, come out. Our home is breaking apart,” they told us. When we arrived at their home, we could easily see that their home was literally falling apart, and slanting to one side. The home was sitting on settling soil, meaning the soil was pushing the home's foundation in multiple directions, and when this happened, it began putting pressure on the structure.
After examining the foundation, we immediately began to put our plan into action. We first placed a rod (shown in the photo), measuring about 12-feet long into the foundation. We then dug a hole 12 feet away from the home, in virgin soil, and placed the earth anchor. We next installed the wall anchor, which is used as a brace for your home’s foundation, helping to hold it upright to prevent it from titling.
When utilizing a wall anchor to stabilize a foundation, it is necessary to tighten the anchor every couple of months to force the wall back to its original, straight position, like it was when the house was first built.
