Different Types of walls
When choosing the right foundation types for your basement you have to also consider the following:
- Stone walls: They are common in old homes, and leaks are always a concern.
- Block walls: Most common in homes that were built in the 1940’2-1975. They used to be made from cinder blocks. Also, the blocks have been made from concrete for some time.
- Poured Concrete walls: Poured concrete walls are most common in households today. It also resists water better than blocks. However, the leaking cracks are a big concern.
- Monolithic Foundation walls: Could be block or poured walls. The difference is that the floor and footing are poured in one piece. With the walls on top, it’s a two-piece foundation instead of a three-piece.
- Precast Foundation walls: Newest idea, relatively rare. Having a great sump-pump system is a must. It also looks like concrete studs inside.
- Wood Foundation walls: Treated wood stud walls and plywood. It’s very rare in most areas.
