DryZone and Sussex County Delaware Habitat for team up again
Sussex County Habitat for Humanity contacted DryZone a few weeks back, we were asked to look at a potential mold problem in one of their Neighborhood Stabilization Projects. When I arrived, they explained to me that they had an Industrial Hygienist out and that they had been given a protocol to treat the entire basement walls. Only the wooden framing was exposed, they had a concern that they would have to spend thousands of dollars remediating the walls, you see, the walls were supposed to be thrown out. When I looked at the walls, I could see two very large horizontal cracks in the foundation wall, one in the front and one in the back. I asked Rebecca Peterson if they would like us to fix the foundation walls, we utilize a produt call a GeoLock Wall Anchor, I explained to her that we have worked on a few projects across Delmarva with the local Habitat Chapters, and that we as a company believe that they are a great organization. Most people do not know this but Habitat has to hire contractors to perform some of the more specialty work, I was always under the impression that these type of services were donated, I was wrong. My company and I have committed to not charge Habitat for Humanity for our services, we all volunteer out time and my company donates all of the material and equipment.
We arrived at my shop in Milton, DE at 7am on Saturday morning, with the trucks loaded up from the previous night we were able to enjoy a few cups of coffee before we left for Camden. Upon arrival we had to make sure that there were no obstructions in the yard (we had Miss Utility our a few days before) and began to lay out where the anchors would be installed. Twelve feet into the yard five holes had been dug, this is where the earth anchor is to be placed, meanwhile inside the basement the walls had been marked and holes drilled into the foundation to allow the anchor rods to be driven, the young ladies from Habitat even joined in a helped push a few rods into the yard. Once all of the rods were driven into the ground and the earth plates were secured, we installed the wall plates. To stabilize the wall, we utilize a torque wrench and torque it to an acceptable pressure. The wall is now stabilized and the new homeowners can rest assured that the wall will have no more inward movement of the walls from the outside soils.
