7 Morning Habits to Change Your Life
1. Get an Early Start
Not a morning person??? Instead of dreaming of more sleep or hitting the snooze several more times just imagine an extra hour to yourself! Get an early start with a morning cup of coffee or tea, a meditation or morning walk, watching the sunrise or catching up on some reading, all before your day “officially” starts. Waking up early and having extra time makes your morning less stressful too, with less running out the door sans breakfast.
2. Have a Hearty Breakfast
This isn’t the first time you’ve heard to eat breakfast because it’s the most important meal of the day. Breakfast usually affects your eating habits for the rest of the day. Eat a wholesome, well-balanced breakfast that will fuel you up! Think of fruit, oatmeal, granola cereal, eggs or hearty toast. Overnight oats and smoothies are great ideas for planning ahead!
3. Stretch It Out!
Can’t squeeze a workout in the morning? Light Stretching or even 15 minutes of yoga can help loosen up your body and get it going for the day! This activity can be combined with relaxation music or even a podcast that you enjoy! Even a walk with your pet outside can help stretch things out!
4. Positive Thoughts
What better way to start the day than to start with positive thoughts! Start changing your outlook on the mundane 8 to 5 work day by starting a positive thought or gratitude journal. Every day, list 5 - 10 things that you are grateful for in life. It could be the simplest thing like fresh brewed coffee to an individual or even a life event! When you feel grateful for things, you can’t help but feel happy and you can’t help but have a good day! This daily habit can really help reduce the stresses of the mundane like traffic, small arguments, bills, or unwanted weather.
Writing about what you want to happen in your life can also be beneficial. You can ask yourself these three questions:
• What do I want to achieve?
• Why do I want to achieve it/these?
• What do I commit to doing to achieve my goals?
5. H2O for the Win!
Drink a cup of warm water with fresh lemon can help flush out toxins and other unwanted materials from your body and boosts your immune system. It also gives you more energy, aids digestion and helps with bloating. If you have problems with indigestion, you must try drinking this on an empty stomach. Add honey or ginger if you’re not a fan of lemon! Drinking water in the morning and throughout the day can help replenish those fluids and let your body rehydrate itself. You lose a lot of water during sleep, so proper hydration is needed to rejuvenate your body in the morning.
6. Tidy Up
Tidying up a little in the morning with that extra time you have can make coming home a little less stressful! Putting away those few cups in the sink, wiping down a counter here or there, and just some simple straightening up can make your home feel more organized when you return home. You don’t have to spend more than five to ten extra minutes—if that—to have a much cleaner feel to your home.
7. Keep the Phone Down!
With our busy lives, it’s easy to get swayed into looking on social media, the news, and work emails in the morning. But focusing on the first 6 parts of this list before entering into the technology world, will help you focus on other parts of your life and your home that will benefit you in the long run!
