It's just a crack who cares

I recently had a homeowner tell me “It’s just a hairline crack--- Big Deal”.  Therefore, I asked her if it was ok to bring in a straight edge down to the basement to see how much deflection the wall had; she agreed “Yikes” was the response.  I explained that her wall was bowing inward and was getting worse by the season, we talked a lot that day about how when the soils around our home gets wet they expand, also when were are in drought conditions the soil will contract.  The heaving of the ground can weaken a wall, and the mortar joints are a perfect place for them to fail. She told me how other contractors just wanted to come in and fill in the joints in because it was just “shrinkage of the mortar”, she realized then she needed and wanted a more permanent solution.  We discussed several options and the Geo-Lock wall anchor system was the appropriate solution for her home.
